JotNot Scanner Pro is a great alternative to Scanner Pro. The app provides many of the same features. The app includes multi-page support, page edge detection, faxing support, camera stabilization, PDF/PNG/JPEG support, and integration with the built in photo library. The app has a great interface that many may prefer over Scanner Pro. The app also lets you send your scans to Dropbox, iDisk, Google Docs, and Box.net. JotNot also provides built in email support. DocScanner: Scan Multipage Documents to Beautiful PDFs

    by Haave Oy

DocScanner is another excellent option. The price is great and it has been through many updates to perfect the app. The app features OCR support and image enhancements. The app will help you make your images look great through cropping, sharpening, and fixing the white balance and distortion. The app shares your files through Dropbox, Evernote, Google Docs, WebDAV, and iDisk. The app can also share documents through a local Wi-Fi share. The app is a great alternative to Scanner Pro, although its OCR support is subpar.

    Image To Text - OCR

    by Ricoh Innovations

Image To Text OCR is perhaps one of the best OCR apps in the App Store today. It works as you would expect, snap a photo of a piece of paper and watch the OCR magic occur. The only difference is that the actual OCR process does not happen on your phone but rather on separate servers which makes the process much faster and easier on your CPU. Finally, you could send the finalized file via email or to your Evernote account. Overall, this app is good if you have decent lighting, but as a free option, I recommend giving it a try.

CamScanner Free| PDF Document Scanner and OCR

    by IntSig Information Co.,Ltd

The free alternative to Scanner Pro is CamScanner Free. The app includes even more sharing options including: Google Docs, Evernote, Dropbox, iDisk, email and Box.net. The app supports multiple pages and ensures your images aren’t taken with shaky hands. The app helps you make great looking scans through auto-cropping and color/brightness adjustments. The app does not try to sell you in-app upgrades and is a wonderful free option. However, some have criticized its reliability as far as storing documents.

    Genius Scan - PDF Scanner

    by The Grizzly Labs

Genius Scan is another free option for the iPhone. The app features page frame detection, perspective correction, post-processing, multi-page support, Wi-Fi sharing, iBooks integration, and PDF/JPG support. The app has some ads and is limited in its sharing functionality. The in-app upgrade to Genius Scan+ removes ads and includes options to share with Dropbox, Evernote, and Google Docs. The app performs well for a free app, but the quality of images could be better.

Perfect OCR: document scanner with high quality OCR

    by Pixoft

Perfect OCR builds on TurboScan, which is also featured in this AppGuide. The app takes all of the great features found in that app like SureScan and adds OCR capabilities. OCR or optical character recognition takes an image and applies a text layer over the image. The app is hit or miss with OCR conversions. If you are working with some standard paper print outs the app performs great. If you try to scan newspapers the app will not perform as well. The app can be a very useful for turning an image into text.

TurboScan: quickly scan multipage documents into high-quality PDFs

    by Piksoft Inc.

TurboScan is an alternative to Scanner Pro. The app includes AirPrint support, edge detection, document numbering, and “SureScan” functionality. SureScan is a method of taking multiple pictures and having the app automatically pick the best one for you. The sharing options of the app are limited to email. The app fails to compete with Scanner Pro because the export options, PDF encryption, and many more features are simply lacking from this app.

Pocket Scanner - Scan Images to Encrypted Multi-Page PDFs

    by Kdan Mobile Software LTD

PocketScanner is even more limited than TurboScan in its scanning functionality. The app will allow you to adjust exposure, support multiple pages, preview scans in PDF format, email scans and import images from your photo library. The app also lets you store tons of other files. The app really does fail as a scanner app for the iPhone. The lack of framing and other standard scanning features degrade the quality of this app. PocketScanner has great potential, but is not ready for prime time.

    Page Scanner

    by Chaoji Li

Page Scanner works as both a scanning and OCR app for the iPhone. The app fails to deliver on standard scanning app features like border detection and a visual guide to take good looking scans. The app does perform excellent OCR on good looking scans. The app is also limited in file sharing. The app can email scans, send scans through iTunes, or allow access on a local Wi-Fi network. The app is a nice option, but a little pricey for the current functionality.
