    Tap to Facebook Chat brings a very unique UI. You are able to look at all of your Facebook chats at the same time with this app. The iPad’s screen can filled with windows of different Facebook chats. The interface works quite well. The app includes push notification and all of the other standard features. Tap to Facebook is a great alternative to the essential app.

    Chat for Facebook is the first of what is an onslaught of poorly designed Facebook chat apps. We were blown away with just how many terrible apps there are for Facebook chatting. Chat for Facebook was originally designed for the iPhone and it shows. The developers simply blew up the app to fit onto the iPad screen. No real work has been done to this app to optimize it for the iPad. Push notifications are included. The app is not truly terrible, but it's not great either.

    SimpleIM for Facebook

    Messenger for Facebook could potentially be a great app. It was created by the same folks that created SimpleIM 2. The description in the App Store for many of the features is an exact copy and paste from that app. The features included are nice, but no better than the essential app. We found the app to be crash prone. We hope to see future updates that make this a real contender for the essential app. Right now it is nothing special.

    Chattero - Chat for Facebook with Push Pro

    Chattero is an app to avoid. The app does not use the same standard connection protocols that the other apps do. As a result, the app will simply not connect with Facebook in many cases. The interface and design feel very lacking. In many ways the app feels like beta software. Push notifications are not even included with this current version. We are looking forward to seeing this app improve over time. Right now it is an app to avoid.

    Chat for Facebook HD is another disappointing app. No push notification is included with the app, and yet push notification is an essential feature for any IM-type app. The exclusion of that feature is a big problem. The app uses your Facebook username to login, instead of your email address, which has confused many of the users. The interface and design we felt was lacking. Chat for Facebook HD's price point is higher than the essential app and yet it includes less. Chat for Facebook HD is an app to avoid.
