Find-A-Fish is the best alternative to FishID. The app is dead simple to use and navigate. The database includes 61 of the most popular fresh water fish in North America. There are tons of details and info for each fish. The images are accurate and point out unique qualities of each type of fish. Those that want to try the app can use the free lite version.
WhatTheFish! Fresh Water Fish Identification provides a nice way to identify a little more than 50 popular fresh water fish. The app is fairly well designed and easy to use. For $1.99 it offers a pretty good value. This is an okay alternative to FishID.
FishId - The Field Guide to UK Coarse Fish is a very rudimentary app. This app is really only for those in the UK as the name describes. There is solid content in this app, but the interface and design leave a lot to be desired.
Fish Encyclopedia is a great resource to learn about fish, their life, and other aspects of the aquatic world. The app is beautiful to use. We would like to see larger text used in this app. The content is great and this app provides a great complement to the essential app.
Fish-Encyclopedia is a do not buy app. The content is lacking and the app itself is not very good. The iPad version is simply an upscaled version of the iPhone app. There is potential in this app, but until more content is added, don't bother.
