Lightsaber apps have been a big hit on the iPhone ever since the App Store launched. There are tons of them available. Some of these are official ones and some are non-licensed ones. We compare the best ones out there in this AppGuide.

    Star Wars: Lightsaber Duel

    by THQ Wireless Inc.

Star Wars: Lightsaber Duel is the lightsaber app to rule all others. No other app has the ability to actually duel with others. While dueling you can listen to official music and sound effects. Single user mode is a lot of fun as well. Your lightsaber is totally customizable. You can select from four different handles and select practically any color imaginable for your blade. Preset characters are also included to make grabbing your favorite lightsaber fast and easy. Star Wars: Lightsaber Duel is the only lightsaber app you will ever need.

    Lightsaber Unleashed

    by TheMacBox

Lightsaber Unleashed is the free alternative to the essential app. No dueling mode is included, but many of the same features make its way into this app. These include customizable blades and handles as well as character selection. Music and sound effects are also played in this app. Grab this one if you don’t have a buck to spend on the essential app.

    LightSaber

    by Patrick Giudicelli

LightSaber simply is not worth the price of admission. The graphics are simply terrible. The interface is not the best. Lightsaber Unleashed provides a better experience and that app is free. The only positive of the app is the great looking icon. We can only hope the app gets better with updates.

    LightSword Defense

    by Excelltech Inc.

LightSword Defense may sound like a fun game. The description makes it feel like you will be battling a training droid like Luke does in “A New Hope”. The game is not that at all. The game is hard to control and not even fun. We can only hope the game improves in the future. Right now we would recommend avoiding this one.

    A+ Lightsaber

    by aone

A+ Lightsaber is another app to avoid. The developers try to trick the users into clicking on ads. The launch screen displays a notification to entice you to download a free app. When using the app another ad will be displayed right under the lightsaber. The area where they place this ad makes it very easy to tap accidentally. The app itself is not very fun. The graphics are not good. The sound effects are not Star Wars-like either. A+ Lightsaber gets an “F” in our books.

    Lightsaber!

    by aone

Lightsaber was created by the same developer that made A+ Lightsaber. The odd thing we found is the app is the same! There are no differences between the two apps. The blade color selection is the same. The ad placement is the same. The sound effects are the same. We are surprised Apple didn’t boot both of these from the App Store. It is a good thing these apps are free. We would recommend avoiding Liang Zhang’s apps altogether for these shady practices.
