Tumblr Apps For The iPad

Start Tumbling With The Help Of These iPad Apps

Tumblr users have had very few good options for iPad apps in the past. In the last few years, many Tumblr apps have popped up into the App Store. Some have disappeared while others have taken us by surprise. Let's take a look at what is currently out there in this AppGuide.

Essential Apps

  • Free

    by Tumblr

The official Tumblr app that was once only optimized for the iPhone is now universal, making it an essential app. It is very simple, unlike most Tumblr apps out there. The UI is clean and still appealing. This app also allows you to post all sorts of media, reblog, and even like posts without any hassle.

    Tumblita for Tumblr

    by Kyle Zaragoza

Tumblita For Tumblr was originally deemed our essential Tumblr app for the iPad. It should be no surprise that it is still here today holding its spot as an essential app. The app flows wonderfully and continues to be very iPad-friendly. It allows you to keep track of your dashboard and everyone you follow. You can also add multiple accounts to the app and view each post individually, swiping to view the next.

    Tumbletail for Tumblr

    by CatHand.org

TumbleTail replicates most of the functionality found in the free, lite version TumbleTail (linked below), but it has a much better interface. The app also lets you send Tumblr posts to Dropbox or Evernote. On top of that, it can handle multiple accounts and includes Twitter integration. Unfortunately, Tumbletail cannot post new content nor can it view videos. It is more of a viewer, which is why it doesn't make it into the essential category.

    Postr for Tumblr

    by Tomaz Nedeljko

If you're the type that likes to keep everything simple and clean, then Postr is the Tumblr app for you. I find this app to be simply stunning without all the clutter and confusing features that some apps push. You can link multiple accounts, access your dashboard, post from the app, and so much more for only $1.99.

TumbleOn HD - Tumblr App for Images

    by Pocket Sized Giraffe, LLC

Tumblr is not only a blog site, but it is also a great way to discover new photos. If you're the type that uses Tumblr for the sole purpose of finding new photos or just love to get lost exploring photos, then TumbleOn HD is an app you want to try. The app is packed with tons of features including the abilities to post your own photos and link multiple accounts. The UI is breathtaking in every way and can't be beat for just $1.99.

Decent Apps

    Ripplr for Tumblr

    by Shihiko Studios

Ripplr for Tumblr is a nice alternative to any of the apps mentioned above. It is a functional app that allows you to post and the UI isn't confusing at all. It is free with the option to upgrade through in-app purchase. The only thing I dislike about the app are the ads, but you can get rid of those with the upgrade.

Apps That Integrate Tumblr

  • Free

    Flipboard: Your Social News Magazine

    by Flipboard Inc.

Flipboard is an extravagant app that transforms how we read news stories and brings it up a notch. This app is a personal news magazine that allows you to add topics of your interest. Stories will then fill your screen based on those interests. But wait! The fun doesn't stop there. You can also link your social networks, including Tumblr, so that you may view posts and blogs alongside your news stories. While you can't post to Tumblr from this app, it's still a gorgeous way to keep up with Tumblr without using a separate app.

Blogsy - for WordPress, Blogger and almost all blogging platforms

    by Fomola

For the hardcore bloggers that use Tumblr, I highly recommend Blogsy. This app turns your iPad into a highly useful blogging tool. The features included in this app are some of the richest I've seen in any blogging app. It connects with nearly a dozen blogging hosts, including Tumblr. It even supports services such Flickr and Instagram.

    by Layers

If Flipboard and Pinterest were to have a child, persona/ would be their bundle of joy. This app's user interface is stunning. The layout is similar to Flipboard. It differs because you have the ability to pin posts from each of your social networks, including Tumblr. The result is your own persona/ page customized with your pins.

    iSocial Connect

    by Liam Small

The app iSocial Connect not only gives you access to Tumblr, but it also gives you access to most of the other major social networks. Just choose the networks you'd like to use and log in. If you're a fan of the mobile sites of these social networks, then you'll love rolling them all into one with iSocial Connect.
