Copy & Paste is coming to the iPhone shortly.

No, this isn’t a false reference to the Fake Copy & Paste Video from last year.

No, Apple hasn’t changed their tune and decided to push the feature to the top of their priority list.

Rather, a third-party company has submitted an app that promises to finally deliver Copy & Paste functionality to iPhone users worldwide, and we’ve got dibs on a first look.

The program, a rich-text editing tool, lets iPhone owners select text by highlighting with a double-tap and drag motion. From there, users can not only Copy & Paste, but change the text in a variety of ways, including:

  • 5 different font sizes
  • 6 different font choices
  • 8 different color choices
  • bold, italics, underline, and strike-through

We’ve got some first look screenshots below and hope to have a Demo Video very soon:

  1. will it work throughout the system/apps or only in this app
because what users need is for example to be able to copy text in safari and paste it in an email, note or sms..

  2. OMFG I have been waiting for this hope its for ipod touch too, please don’t mind me writing about it. Thanks mate

    • U have to pay 9.95 for it on a ipod touch

  3. Now that I am thinking, that might be copy paste tool for like notes etc but I don’t think it will work in safari unless its an upgrade.

  4. I may be wrong but it looks like it might be just a text editor with the copy & paste functionality (i.e. not going to work on other programs). But it’s still very cool as a rich text editor was much needed since the Notes program is not enough.

  5. Excellent! Although I would prefer it if Apple themselves do something like this, something is better than nothing. This app is going to sell like a bitch!

  6. Hey guys, it appears the application above will only allow Copy & Paste functionality within the app itself (at least initially). Due to restrictions in Apple’s SDK, interactivity between apps like this isn’t yet permitted. We’ll hopefully be having a video demonstration to post shortly, so stay tuned!

  7. I don’t see Apple making a solution like this. You need to place an extra set of buttons above the keyboard, and I don’t think copy/paste is worth it. There needs to be a way to do it without buttons.

  8. Hey!! pero si también se habla español por este sitio :)

Bueno yo pienso que esta muy bien que salgan aplicaciones de este tipo, pues por regla general para entrar en un sitio, primero hay que abrir la puerta. ;)

    Translation
Hey! but also it is spoken Spanish by this site:)
Good I fodder that this very well that leaves applications this type, because as a rule to enter a site, first it is necessary open the door. ;)

  9. Apple should really just have a button that expands the keyboard to add these special buttons. Hopefully they’ll smarten up and integrate this into the core iPhone OS.

  10. A keyboard that added the buttons would be nice, but I really want to see an all-motion way to copy & paste without even using buttons.

  11. en dos palabras…

    im presionante!! ;)

  12. please keep us posted on this! This is the last thing that really annoys me about my iPhone. If I can copy paste it will be the perfect phone for me.

  13. Oh finally… A huge gaping hole exists on the iphone… A feature that my free P.O.S. cell fone has… Ability to RECORD VIDEO! Why is it every phone has it and iphone not? huh?
There better be a App for it soon!

  14. WOW that was great!

  15. Its useless in Safari, email, sms and everything else. I don’t need a friggin text editor … and that’s all that is. Whybus everyone so happy? a true cut, copy & paste will be in a iPhone firmware update… not a 3rd party app… calm down folks..

  16. someone should sue Apple for not having copy paste functionally.

  17. No question that the lack of cut and paste function thoughout all iPhones apps is a major shortcomming and frustration. Just being able todo this in the email app would be a godsend. The memo function is useless without cut and paste. We need a clipboard like function asap.

  18. so… where the hell is it already ?

  19. What do you mean, this app has been out for a while and even has an update. Check MagicPad in the app store.

  20. Perhaps apple should just copy Windows mobile and use their method of just selecting the text as you would with a mouse and then holding the screen for a while until the menu bar appears which has such nifty features as cut and paste….

  21. I don’t usually like Windows, but Alan (#45) is right. It shouldn’t be a difficult thing to add. This is one time when Microsoft has it right.

  22. I am a new iPhone owner and this lack of a cut-copy-paste is such a disappointment, especially with all the other elegant features Apple has added. Oh, and where is the file system?

  23. I too am a new iPhone user coming from a 4 year old Moto MPx220 (A Much More Expensive Phone than the iPhone without all the extra apps needed to make it work for your life), which had copy paste I could use for coping phone numbers out of my phonebook into TXT Messages, other contacts, etc. It also had better organization for the contact list, voice dailing and a lot more, but that’s another Bitch List entirely. My BlackBerry has all those features too. Apple … You keep missing the mark and I keep not wanting to buy your products for many more years as before.
I do not see any documentation that this application will do more than let me copy and past within the documents, I need to be able to copy from and paste into the contact list, txt messages and emails, and maybe even websites through safari. Will this work?

  24. When are we going to get cut and paste for contacts???? The mire act of attempting to memorize a phone number or writing a number down on a piece of paper and then typing it is so unapple!
When are we going to get a real cut and paste??????

  25. What possible reason could Apple have for not providing a cut & paste app? Seems like there’s several developers with such an app ready. Makes no sense to me…..

  26. this is useless unless it can copy/paste in other applications. i have wifi networks i can’t join because they only accept cut/paste passwords. useless!

  27. Me Again.

Been looking at getting a new laptop. I do a fair amount of photography and have been told the MAC Book would be a great choice. Having been a PC and MAC tech (Mac years ago) I really wonder if I will have the same disappointment with a MACBook as I have with my iPhone. Will I continue to be turned away be pages of at least 50% of the websites I visit becuase my MAC does not have a Flash Player, will I be able to copy and paste my photos into documents and emails, will the contact list be one long ass list with every email contact I have with no way of catagorizing the contacts for easier retrieval, will I be forced to only use one inadequate sync program that does not allow me any control over what I snyc and to where? Or are all these disappointments just for the iPhone? Wow …. I think the MAC guy on TV is deluded … I am shopping for a PC!

  28. Well until today I could not find anything that I did not like about the iPhone… No cut/copy & paste function. I switched from Windows mob 6.1 w/ copy & paste … Buggy just like every other windows software. But at least you could copy to a word or excel & paste to almost anything. It is still the best phone I have ever used. And the wifi with the iPhone works so much better than the windows mobile version I used. So I was able to drop the 40.00 unlimited data plan. Who is in charge of iPhone development at apple anyway?

  29. This is nonsense. Had an iPhone and gave it up because of the lack of a global search and copy/paste. These are basic functions for any modern PDA device. Its a race between real copy/paste and global search on the iPhone and the release of the PalmPre for me. I’d prefer the iPhone, but it is useless to me without these features.

  30. tell Steve to go look at an Apple Newton Messagepad 2000 to see how copy, paste delete etc works with gestures. Apple owns the patents. Apple developed it over a decade ago. Apple can and should implement it now! I think Steve is pissed that one of the best products (and that is a bold statement) that Apple designed , built, sold, happened whilst he was on ‘holidays’.

  31. I was writing a long gmail today and decided that the last lengthy sentence should be on the top of first paragraph. I could not cut & paste so I deleted the text, and went up to top of page and retyped the long line from memory- so much for Apple technology leading the way. My cousin, a traveling salesman, was very impressed with my iPhone until I said I cannot cut & paste. He said he uses that feature ‘all the time’ on his Verizon cell phone. (Rob)

  32. I just got this app but it crashes every time on 2.2.1 i want a refund
I have had more luck with clippy a jail broken app.
I was really hoping this would work

  33. I am totally baffled why Apple is dragging their butt on this….. even my PC Jr. with PFS Write could handle cut and paste back in the 80’s…. Come On Guys get with it!

  34. BS, believe it when I see it. I think it’s another publicity ploy from Apple,… kooks. I love my freakin iPhone, dangit.

  35. Still no cut and paste ? still no love Apple ? This is the feature that I miss daily not having on my iPhone. Why do they continue to be so pig-headed about this?

  36. Copy and paste is why I use a Blackberry.

  37. I went from a Blackberry, to this? What about picture text? Why can’t we do this with an iphone? I just don’t get it! Come on Apple, get it together.

  38. how much longer do we freaking have to wait for it?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
