How to Get a US iTunes Account

September 22, 2008

Power iPhone user kgirl24, of the ehMac.ca forums (Canada's Mac Community), posted an interesting workaround for you international readers fiending for US App Store access. We've received countless inquiries through our Contact Us form looking for a solution, like the one below:
I live in Brazil. The iTunes store does not allow me to download (or even purchase) apps from the US app store leaving me to choose from a much smaller collection. Do you have a neat trick to go around this problem. Try for yourself to purchase anything form a non US iTunes store. Stupid isn't it?
Before we'd have sent Erik on his way, disappointed and appless, but now we've unearthed the hidden key he's been looking for... The process runs as follows:
  • 1. Go to TuneCore: 34 Stars and copy the free album code
  • 2. Go into iTunes and log out of your country's store
  • 3. Select the US store
  • 4. Click 'Redeem' in the upper-right section of the US store
  • 5. Enter the code you copied and follow the remaining steps (be sure to select "NONE" when it asks for billing info)
  • User kgirl24 goes on to recommend buying iTunes gift cards and purchasing US iPhone apps to your heart's content! Check out her full post HERE.
