I spent most of yesterday obsessively checking the App Store for the interactive video broadcast platform Ustream. John Ham, Ustream’s CEO, promised the app would be ready for Obama’s Inauguration ceremony this morning.
It seemed like Ham was just blowing smoke as the hours passed by yesterday with no Ustream app to be had. But last night, to my surprise sometime around 10 PM PST Ustream TV appeared in the App store.
The app works better than I would expect it to, considering I’m one of 109,632 people watching the live feed right now. It only has lost connection twice – so far – and doesn’t pause to buffer very often.
Way to go, Ustream, for delivering on time.

It actually streamed pretty well, sound and everything. I was impressed.
It was good for Obama coverage, but did you guys watch it yesterday? It was just some dude sitting there typing. I want to choose what I watch. Where is Slingplayer!!!
i watched the cnn feed on the Ustream iphone client. if is wasn’t for the app i would have missed it.
It would’ve worked for me just fine if I had a wi-fi connection, but apparently it doesn’t work with just the regular 3G network connection, so I ended up streaming the inauguration via cnn.com on my laptop at work. I uninstalled the app immediately after it told me I needed wi-fi. Dissapointing.
