iMagic

Overview

iMagic Trick is an app that performs a single, simple magic trick. You pick a number between 0 and 60 and tell the app “yes” or “no” if your number is on the next six screens. Then… like magic… the app tells you your number. And then you’re like, “Whoa!!!” And then… well… you get over it.

Breakdown

The Good:

Young children and easily impressed folks will be blown away when this app correctly guesses their number. They might even say something like, “Wow! That was magic! (Hint, it’s not magic…) And it is kind of cool for a second or two. I won’t lie. I’d like to think of something else nice to say about it, but I really don’t have anything. The creepy voice is kind of cool. Because it’s creepy.

The Bad:

Okay, first of all, it sucks that once the trick is over, that’s it. You’re stuck on that screen. I’ve tried tapping and pinching and squeezing and sliding and nothing does a damn thing. If you want to see the trick again- you have to quit the app and start it again. And that’s dumb.

But what’s really dumb is the trick. It would be mighty impressive if the app guessed your number after like one or two screens. But, six? If you’re paying attention, you can see how it all works. I won’t ruin the trick for you, but I’ve included the screenshots of my playing this all the way through. Study them and you’ll see how 13 is the only number it could possibly be. Psst… notice how the very first page is all odd numbers between 0-60. That cuts out 30 numbers right there. Then… nah, you can figure it out. You’re smart…

The Verdict

This is hardly a trick. But whatever. You might be able to impress drunk people at a party. And isn’t that really what life is about? Impressing strangers with your iPhone? If that’s not what you’re into, then you should steer clear of this one. Because the real trick is on you… for buying this app. Watch as your dollar magically… disappears!! Ooooooooh!
