Major League Baseball’s regular season opener takes place on April 5th, giving you just enough time to download the official iPhone application so you won’t miss any of your favorite team’s games.
Major League Baseball has released the 2009 version of their popular iPhone application, MLB.com At Bat 2009, available to you at the price of $9.99.
The application features pitch types, real-time scores, and video highlights for every MLB game played during the 2009 regular season and postseason. In addition to those features, this year’s application also features live gameday audio broadcasts for both home and away teams.
The price is a 100 percent increase from last year’s offering, but there are a couple of reasons for that. First off, the 2008 edition was released in July, not in time to cover the first three months of the regular season. That application also didn’t feature live audio broadcasts, a feature that costs $14.95 per year alone from MLB.com, making the iPhone application look like quite a steal at $9.99.
The iPhone has been a lifesaver for almost all traveling sports fans and with applications like these, it only keeps getting better.
And in case you were wondering, Go Twins!

One thing I’d like to know is, are there local blackout restrictions on the audio?
Now I can confirm it directly from our source, “The live audio broadcasts included within
this year’s iPhone app are not subject to blackout restrictions.”
Thank you!
I can’t confirm it, but I am fairly certain there are no blackout restrictions for the audio. I will dig deeper for more information in the meantime.
i hope the twins do AWESOME this year
yah!
MLB.com At Bat was released Aug. 27th last year. Way past the mid point of the 2008 season. When the app was first talked about last year, they said it would be $9.99 for a full season. This is absolutely no surprise at all.
If you watch the price of the original MLB.com At Bat for the 2008 season, you would see it’s price drop at each large milestone of the 2008 baseball season. It went from $4.99 to $2.99 on Oct. 1st. for the post season. It dropped to $0.99 on Oct. 20th for the World Series, and finally Free for the end of the 2008 baseball season.
I’m sure that this will happen again this season. It will drop to $4.99 after the All-Star game and follow the price drops of last year in a similar manner.
You can still see the price updates on the original MLB.com by heading over to AppShopper.com and looking up MLB.com At Bat Lite. That’s the original app and it shows it’s history in both price changes and software updates. AppShopper.com is a great site to see that info and is tied to AppSniper, an absolutely wonderful iPhone/iPod touch app that keeps track of new apps as well as price changes. You can even tell it to watch apps for price changes and notify you when they are less (as much as it can without the notification features that the 3.0 firmware update will offer).
so i downloaded this app. and it’s good, but there have been no clips for my favorite team. the yankees lost their first 2 games and they had mad clips. pure garbage. make with the highlight clips. for all the games.
