There are 30 Million iPhone/iPod Touches Out there!

During the introduction to today's iPhone 3.0 announcement event, VP of iPod and iPhone product marketing Greg Joswiak announced that Apple has now sold 30,000,000 units of iPhones and iPod Touches.

That is a whole lot of touch iDevices out there.  To give you some perspective of how many shinny units that is, that is almost as many units as people living in Apple's home state of California (well a little more than 3 million short according to the last census but you get the idea).

Further, it is surprizing how many of those units are iPod Touches.

Lets do some quick math:

(30 million combined iPhones and iPod Touches sold)

- (17 million iPhones sold  <first gen and 3G devices combined>)

= well that is 13 million iPod Touches.

What an incredible growth in sales of iPod Touches.  It makes you wonder if iPod Touches will soon out number iPhones in the world.

Next question I have is how well push notifications will work on an iPod Touch. We'll see I guess.
