The latest iPhone OS 3.0 Beta released this week added a few more noticeable features and, as AppleInsider has found out, one of them is the ability to create an iTunes account without having to first use iTunes and instead sign up right on the device itself. This could also lead to possibily more functionality such as changing iTunes accounts on the fly.

Implementing an option like that however could prove to be quite a challenge as different accounts have access to different applications and so forth. So far, it doesn’t appear as though the option to create an account is ready for primetime. Attempts to sign up seem to only result in error messages indicating the inability to connect to the App Store. That shouldn’t come as a suprise though as this still is Beta software and no doubt far from what the final version will look like. This just makes for yet another reason to get excited for a eventful summer when this and many more new features will make their debut in iPhone OS 3.0.

  1. This is not news, on one of the slides shown at the iPhone 3.0 event did list iTunes account creation.

  2. There’s no restriction on using apps from multiple accounts I’ve found. I have apps from both the US and Japanese stores loaded on by iPhone.

Of course, only one set of credentials can be on the phone so the iTunes/appstore you can access and the apps you can update depends on which one you were logged in with on your last sync.

I would love to be able to switch accounts and browse and update apps from both stores without having to sync. I’m curious what will come of this.

  3. How do u get there???
