iPhone OS 3.0
As always, the iPhone OS 3.0 beta generated quite a bit of news. Not long after beta 3 was released, new information started pouring in about added features such as data detectors, battery indicators, push notification preferences, and a small addition to the way mobile Safari handles windows. Not to be outdone, the jailbreak community at QuickPwn.com released an updated version of their jailbreak software for iPhone OS 3.0 beta 3.
The next iPhone carrier will be…
The Wall Street Journal had a discussion about the iPhone with not only AT&T’s CEO, but Verizon’s as well. According to their reports, AT&T has been in discussions with Apple to secure the iPhone to their network through 2011. Later in the week they reported that Verizon’s CEO also wanted to discuss with Apple ways to get the iPhone on their network because they intend to have their iPhone compatible 4G network up and running in no time.
One app gets made while another is rejected
An ambitious project was started by three guys who wanted to prove that they could create a commercial RPG game for the iPhone in as little as 30 days. Not only that, but once the game was completed they will be offering a prize of $1,000 to the first person to beat the game. Sounds like it would make a good reality TV show. While one application gets made, another is rejected. Peekababe was rejected by Apple for the use of excessive sexual content, but other applications have been approved by Apple with just as, or more offensive material.
Next-gen iPhone parts
The next-gen rumors will keep on coming until the next-gen iPhone actually physically arrives, so we are just going to have to deal with it. One rumor site reported that Apple had ordered up to 4 million iPhones to prepare for its launch, while also stating that there would be three distinctly different models. Another rumor site claimed to have an official components list for the next-gen iPhone and that list included the often rumored 3.2MP camera.
New and noteworthy apps
The App Store is a busy place which makes it very difficult to keep track of all the interesting applications that are released and updated, so here is a quick rundown of the new and noteworthy applications. Twitterriffic 2.0 has been confirmed to be better and cheaper than ever. Nine Inch Nails finally released their new free application nin: access. Smule released their much anticipated Leaf Trombone: World Stage. Firemint announced what their long awaited update to Flight Control will contain. UniWar was released, and surprised nearly everyone with its deep turn-based gameplay.
