The  AT&T rumors just keep on flowing in, this time a report by BusinessWeek is suggesting that AT&T is considering offering a limited but lower-priced data plan to be implemented as early as late May for customers not willing to make the jump to the iPhone because of its high price tag.
The exclusive U.S. iPhone service provider is considering cutting the price of its monthly service package or offering a range of lower-priced plans, say people with knowledge of the company's thinking. One plan that could be introduced as early as late May would include limited data access at a $10 monthly reduction, the people say.
This rumor follows one from earlier this month by TheStreet that suggested AT&T was considering lowering the basic service plan price for the iPhone from $69 per month to $59.  Also, earlier in the year a report from Kaufman Brothers analyst Shaw Wu suggested more of the same, saying AT&T was considering offering tiered data plans for the iPhone. None of these rumblings are supported by any factual evidence, they are simply rumors.  It would be a logical step for AT&T to make their iPhone plans cheaper to bring in more fence-sitters considering the competition has heated up and iPhone sales are slowing down, but after a recent breakdown by The Wall Street Journal that suggested AT&T couldn't afford to do such a thing, we are not so sure. This most recent rumor, however, makes the most sense because AT&T wouldn't necessarily be losing much by offering a limited but lower-priced plan.  They could attract more customers without hurting their profit margins due to the data limits. Would any of you current iPhone users on AT&T's network consider downgrading your data plan to a limited version to save up to $10 a month?
