AT&T Confirms MMS Won't Cost Extra For Text Bundle Customers

AT&T has posted a short iPhone 3G S FAQ PDF that outlines some important details regarding the devices' launch this week, including availability, how to switch from a different carrier, and how to find out if you are eligible for an upgrade.  The most important part of the document is near the end of the page, however, where AT&T officially confirms that MMS won't cost a single penny more for those of you who already have a text messaging bundle.
Later this summer, as part of the 3.0 software, AT&T will make multimedia messaging (MMS) available at no extra cost to customers with a text messaging bundle.
We already assumed this to be true, but at least we now have the official word from AT&T.  AT&T hasn't stated how they will handle MMS messages yet, however.  Will a single MMS count as a single SMS? Or, will AT&T try to count an MMS as two or even four SMS messages?  The other obvious question is: When exactly is "later this summer"? In the same document AT&T also stated that "in the future" tethering will be made available for both the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3G S, but we already told you about that. This may be the first time in a long time that AT&T news is somewhat positive.  Live it up while you can.
