As Apple airs a new set of ads to highlight the features of iPhone 3GS, Microsoft has one heck of a viral campaign to promote Internet Explorer 8.
Yeah, it’s a stretch to consider this iPhone related but we were too tickled by this not to share it. Warning: it’s kind of gross.
If you go check out the Web site advertised in the video you find out that for every download of Internet Explorer 8 they’ll donate 8 meals to Feeding America, a non-profit focused on getting food to Americans in need.
To recap the message: if you don’t download Internet Explorer 8 for its porn-blocking features you’re literally taking food out of people’s mouths. Sounds like Microsoft to me.

I think this commercial is funny,
I enjoy their IE8 commercials and their recent Bing commercials.
but sadly, there is a flaw…
internet explorer is terrible, and pretty much the only people I know who use it are those who find themselves practically computer illiterate.
Also, Apple would never want something like this for there advertising, so i wouldn’t really put this as a win. I would say microsoft has just moved up closer to par.
Apple advertising is clean and sophisticated (usually). They wouldn’t want this kind of publicity to possibly tarnish it’s wonderful silver and glass aesthetics.
Also, this feature (like many advertised in upcoming browsers) is old news… I’ve had private browsing for a while now in safari, just like tab tearing and many other features advertised by IE8 and firefox’s latest release…
