Next-gen iPod touch and iTunes 9 to arrive week of September 7th?

ipodtouch_3gen1Apparently it’s rumor season again.  The week started off with rumors of iTunes 9 containing new app organization and social networking features, and not too long after we received even more details indicating that these social networking features would be integrated via a completely separate app.  Then, music industry sources claimed that iTunes 9 would be unveiled during a “week of September 7th” special event along with a new iPod touch.  This new iPod touch is said to sport a built-in camera and we capped off the week with photos and a video of it in-hand.

Is it really going to be the “iTablet”?

itabletThe iTablet saga took an interesting turn this week when Gizmodo head honcho Brian Lam spoke to a “reliable source” who indicated the device would resemble a large iPhone.  The device is said to sport a 10 inch screen, come in two different versions (with/without webcam), may function as a  secondary display and touchscreen input device for existing Macs, and cost somewhere between $700-$900.  To add fuel to this fire, Apple shot a commercial in a diner for a mysterious product that can only be assumed to be the next-gen iPod touch OR the iTablet.

Applists that start with a number

applist_wirEight plus nine equals… seventeen great apps of course!  This week we released two great Applists: Apps for News Junkies and Apps for Your First iPhone.  Apps for News Junkies will help you find the best apps for keeping tabs on the latest news while on-the-go.  Apps for Your First iPhone was created to help all of you iPhone noobs out there who just don’t know where to start in the App Store, but don’t worry, we won’t make fun of you.  It’s always tough being the new iPhone kid on the block.

Sneak peek

minigore_swayLooking back on weeks past can be entertaining, but knowing what’s coming up is even better.  Minigore should be getting its first update this week, which will feature an extra life, automatic save, a faster shotgun, and a new OpenFeint.  The Mac OS classic game of Snood will be making its way to the iPhone and iPod touch later this month, and so will the extremely addicting marble shooting game, Luxor.  It’s time to start saving up those pennies!

New and noteworthy apps

dukenukem3dEA released another board game for the iPhone and iPod touch, The Game of Life.  Red Bull X-Fighters should give FMX fans everything they have ever asked for.  Wolfenstein RPG was finally given the green light after a very long wait.  The classic FPS Duke Nukem 3D was released to fairly negative reviews thanks to its poor control system, but that should be fixed with the next update.  Sid Meier’s classic turn-based strategy series came to the App Store in the form of Civilization Revolution.  Peephole turned out to be a great way to find photos on Twitter.  If you want everyone in the world to know what you are listening to, try Face the Music.
