If you are at all interested in first-person shooters, you are probably already aware of Gameloft’s Modern Combat: Sandstorm for the iPhone and iPod touch. The game has garnered a lot of interest from fans of the genre mostly because of its highly polished visuals, and now that it is finally available, it’s time to check out what else the game has to offer.
Modern Combat: Sandstorm is by far the best looking shooter available for the iPhone and iPod touch, but surprisingly it also has a pretty smooth framerate. The game features 10 varied missions through Middle Eastern environments, wide range of weapons including assault rifles, RPG, shotgun, and grenades, multiple difficulty levels, and three different control schemes.
Being an iPhone FPS, one would assume the controls would be a bit challenging, but surprisingly they are pretty easy to get acquainted with. The default control system features works well, and together with the smooth framerate, you should be mowing down bad guys without a problem. By default the game features an aut0-aim system, but that can be disabled.
Modern Combat: Sandstorm has already been extremely well-received in the App Store with the average rating being a perfect five stars. That reception should get even better with the promised addition of multiplayer through updates.
Modern Combat: Sandstorm is now available for $6.99. I am certain some of you have already given it a good play through, so let’s hear what you have to say in the comments section below.
Check out the brand new trailer for Modern Combat: Sandstorm below.

I played Sandstorm all night yesterday and I gotta say it’s pretty amazing. I never thought my iPod touch 2nd gen was capable of playing games like this so smooth. I haven’t done much of the missions, but the 1st few I’ve done are pretty good. There is 3 choices between Easy, Medium & Hard. I’ve been playing in hard mode and wow I gotta say it’s pretty damn challenging. The only thing that really sucks about this game is there is no online playing. Gameloft did promise online playing, but Gameloft also “promised” tracks for Guitar Rock Tour 2 and there is still no available tracks for download. I can’t help myself, but to think the online playing option might come several months later. Or maybe it won’t come at all. Who knows.
I just really hope it comes asap.
Overall, this game is wonderful but I’m sure after your done with the missions there won’t be much to do…. Until they add the “promised” online playing feature.
modern combat is the best FPS on the app store no doubt it is really fun and challenging.
