After hearing about Mozilla wanting to enter the App Store, I contacted their PR department to see if I would get them to drop some crispy updates/news/anything about what they are cooking up. Unfortunately it seems like the motto is “no comment”. After getting a first answer saying that they are going to look into it for me, they sent me another e-mail :
We are not able to participate in this opportunity at this time
They apologized for the inconvenience and that’s all I was able to obtain. They did say “at this time” though which I could interpret as another confirmation that something is indeed coming… But what’s confusing to me is that I wouldn’t be surprised if this was Apple, but Mozilla ? Come on, why are you playing the secrecy card ?
If you look at Mozilla’s company description you get things like:
we use a highly transparent, extremely collaborative process
or
And we’re an open source software project
This whole app deal doesn’t sound very transparent to me, what do you think ?
Also, do any of you happen to be living in Mountain View, Auckland, Beijing, Copenhagen, Paris, Tokyo or Toronto and have some spare time to go sneak around their offices?

That seems very unlike Mozilla indeed.
Is it possible Apple has the gun to their heads also?
