It was to be expected, AT&T continues to defend itself against Verizon featuring Luke Wilson. In opposition to Verizon, AT&T seems to be playing the nice/soft card and tries to be funny in a very bizarre way.
It begins well with Wilson saying he’s there to “set the record straight” while standing on a big American map, unfortunately the whole postcard thing is just completely weird, who the hell came up with that ?
Here is the ad, in two parts :
He could at least have said that those are postcards sent by happy customers who love the coverage, I just don’t understand.
What do you think?

[Update :
Yet another one, snarkier this time :

Nice try AT&T yet Verizon’s right on the money, your 3G coverage is terrible.
You should have spent the vast profits you’ve been making from the iPhone on upgrading your network but you were greedy so now you only have yourselves to blame.
Truth hurts doesn’t it.
damn, i though iphone fanboys were bad, but the Verizon fanboys are even worse. lol give at&t a break. you are comparing two different networks that use two different methods of 3G deployment. let me show you right quick. Verizon uses the CDMA network and for their 3G all they need to do is a software update, hence the reason they can roll it out so quickly. Rev. A is pretty slow though @ 1.4Mb/s max. on the other hand you have at&t. they use the GSM network and for they 3G (which is superior to CDMA 3G) they need to roll out more spectrum as well as do hardware upgrades, and software upgrades, so when compared to the Verizon method, of course Verizon is going to be able to roll out their 3G much faster. so don’t think because at&t’s 3G coverage isn’t as vast as Verizon that they aren’t actually spending enough money on their network, because if you check the investment charts, at&t invests the most money of any telecommunication provider in the US in their network.
These Luke Wilson responses are just embarrassing. They couldn’t even get Owen?
i dotn get it…at one point this site is pissed off/criticizing verizons commercials, on the other end they make a bitter remark at the end of the this blog post…
what the hell is the deal? Either be happy, or sad…just dont bitch so much.
Well, I agree totally that ATT 3G sucks. Anyhow verizon striked first probably cause they’re pissed to see so many switching to the iphone. Normal since they have the crappiest selection of phones. Yeah, they tried the Droid, but sorry it seems to be a total flop. Way to spend 100 Mill on advertising and selling so little of those… I wish ATT was spending that amount on their network instead…
I think the last one is the very best!
Look, it’s simple. If coverage is THAT important, or you live where AT&T doesn’t service well… then you’re stuck with crappy devices on a good network. I (on the other-hand) think the device is the most important aspect. And between AT&T’s 3G coverage, and the bazillion Wi-Fi spots now available (many teamed with AT&T so it recognizes your phone and away you go!), I rarely have issues with coverage.
Boo-freaken-Hoo about the coverage. If you don’t like it, go to Verizon and get a crappy Storm. The iPhone is simply the most impactful personal electronic device of the last century. PERIOD. For the once or twice a month I find myself in the middle of nowhere and I don’t have 3G coverage, I’m ok with it… because I have the best phone on the planet. And when I can control all the music, video, photos, etc, anywhere in my house from my phone, when I can talk and surf at the same time, when I have access to 100,000 APPS… I could go on all night!
I hear you man, I have never had issues with my iPhone.
Canadians face the same issue: Rogers features GSM 3G and Bell/Telus feature CDMA 3G. Difference is the Rogers 3G network is widely available and the Bell/Telus CDMA network, although slower, is also widely available. Oh, and all three carriers now offer the iPhone.
Wait … turns out this isn’t a related comment. I’m just bragging. We’re also really good at hockey.
Downside is no “unlimited” data plans, though.
I am not sure why the writer of the article or anyone else is confused by these commercials. They seem straight forward to me. Also, I am not sure how people can automatically say AT&T’s 3G coverage is terrible. It IS subpar in a few areas, like San Francisco and New York City, but they are working on that and its improving. I live in central PA, and my 3G coverage is great. I’ve never had an issue with my AT&T coverage or dropped calls. I think people need to think before they spout Verizon rhetoric.
Strange postcard commercial. All of the cities mentioned are covered by all carriers. They failed to mention that my hometown of 2000 people is covered by Verizon’s 3G while at&t still only has Edge available. My nearest at&t 3G coverage is an hour away, while V’s 3G covers the whole area plus some. at&t (Bellsouth) can’t even get adsl out to everyone, much less 3G. What are they spending on their money on? Definitely not upgrades.
The postcard commercial is so annoying. When it comes on I change the channel because I can’ttake his voice. By the way I am an iPhone user do I have AT&T.
I saw the postcard ade and thought it was great. What I would like to know is what happened to all those cards. The reason is that my wife collects postcards. thanks
