Hello, I Am An App Addict

Like many of you probably I use my iPhone pretty much all the time (I usually keep it under my pillow at night). This got me wondering about what is a normal usage and what is too much, well it seems like I’m not the only one and Flurry, a San Francisco-based mobile analytics company did some research about app addiction.

What they actually did is take some measures of how often people use their apps and classified the ones that did more than a 100 times a month as “addicts”.

Ok, this is completely ridiculous, a 100 per month ? I don’t believe that there is something wrong with using an app 3 times a day, they should be aiming for at least 30…

Beside the fact that we see a clear increase, I’m far from believing this stands for research.

Do you consider yourself an app addict ? And what would be the criteria ?

  1. By their count I’m a adict too. I check facebook more than 3 times a day. I would say the number should be closer to 25 or 30 times.

  2. I think the add addict is the person who has to buy apps constantly, and always looking for a better app (me)

    • I think you are absolutely correct.

    • I’m certainly guilty of this. I still haven’t even used some of the apps I’ve bought!

  3. Bjarni is correct. By this research, anyone who uses a computer would be considered an addict, an email addict, an Internet addict… Ridiculous! It’s those who use app finding apps, app review apps, app sale apps, and keep checking the app store for free updates who are the true addicts. I’m proud to be one!

    • CDSmoak,Bjarni,Turra,Keith,Tom, i am on your side.

The first thing i check when i switch on my iPhone Screen each morning, is the AppStore, looking for Updates, my BargainBin List fills several Pages and i’ve loaded nearly 1100 Apps so far (most of them for free ;-) ).

I even would call ‘Hunting for App Bargains’ as one of my hobby’s ;-)

  4. Maybe their is rehab for app addiction. lol

  5. High app usage does not an addiction make. That’s silly. When someone can’t pay rent because of all the apps they bought, or whores their body out for Tweetie 2, then we can start throwing labels around.

  6. Josh, too funny man! I never though of whoring my body out but now I can finally get that $10 app I’ve been waiting for a sale on! ;-)
