Despite of its incredible success, Dragon Dictation the free voice recognition app launched last month by Dragon Naturally Speaking, got quite some criticism.

Indeed, as some of you noticed when it got published, Dragon Dictation had an unpleasant downside. The app would gather your contact names at its launch and upload them to Dragon’s server. The company answered the issue back, claiming this was done for improvement purposes and emphasized that they took a very good care of our data.

It was still a little disturbing; however, I didn’t particularly mind myself, but it seemed to be a serious privacy issue for many users.

Well, Dragon decided to address the issue and a just released a new update of the app. Thanks to this new upgrade you can not only prevent the app from uploading your contacts but also delete the previously uploaded ones from their servers.

This news will definitely come as a relief to Tiger Woods.

  1. Shame it’s not available in the UK – why is it that so many companies forget that the US isn’t the whole world? Perhaps Nuance would like to remember the rest of us?

  2. What a bunch of privacy nuts. No problem that ATT and the NSA could be listening to their calls as well?

  3. Speaking of forgetting the UK, would it be possible to offer promotional codes for places other than the US? (preferably the UK) I just always feel that I am missing out on getting free stuff – which I obviously hate!

  4. Why not support the iPod Touch? Quite a few of us out there too.

I use the iPod Touch routinely for everything but the phone, but I do use Skype on it all the time.

This kind of shortsightedness is also irritating to the consumer. Just because Apple says it’s a gaming platform doesn’t mean we don’t use it as an iPhone minus the cellular.

  5. lol, they change their app after they upload millions of contact names. Nice job Nuance.

    • Well, with this update you can supposedly erase them from their server.

  6. Would be helpful if apps detailed within the shows, we were informed if the apps were available only in the US, certain countries or worldwide.

I have been trying to find this app without success, then found this page.

Totally agree with the comments above from Jeremy and Dave !
