Handy Wiki Is Even More Useful When It’s Free

Handy Wiki is a relatively new Wikipedia app that we got to know really well while compiling our recent Wikipedia iPhone apps AppGuide, and as it turns out, it was one of our favorites.  Somehow we missed the fact that this normally $4.99 priced app was made available for free for a limited time, but thanks to one of our long time readers, Lee, we’re not too late to the party and neither are you.

handywiki_screen1Handy Wiki is a fast, clean, and powerful Wikipedia app for both the iPhone and iPod touch, and it’s also one of the snazziest looking ones thanks to a nifty page curl effect that reveals a table of contents which allows you to easily jump to specific areas of an article without leaving your current page.  It also features iPhone-optimized pages, customizable text formatting, a built-in browser, and powerful search system.

What makes Handy Wiki really handy for iPod touch users is its ability to save entire articles automatically, including images, to your device for later viewing, which is perfect for those times when you are without a Wi-Fi connection.  If you would rather have articles load faster, however, you can also disable automatic image downloading.

Handy Wiki is normally available in the App Store for $4.99, but it will be available for free until tomorrow, December 29th.  This version of Handy Wiki is leaps and bounds better than its actual free version, Handy Wiki Free, for a handful of reasons, including the lack of ads and the neat page curl effect, so don’t miss out.

  1. How the heck did they do this curl effect? I as a developer always wanted this cool effect but I heard that Apple rejects apps because of this! Now I see this app…this is somehow not clear to me…

  3. Thank you AppAdvice!!!

  4. It’s a simple and quick wikipedia app, but it’s missing so many features.
If you are one of those who jump from one language to another, then the process can get tedious with this app.

The curl effect is pretty neat though :P

  5. I just downloaded this app from iTunes and it said it was $.99. I figured it was worth a buck, but so I got it anyway. I’m not sure what happened to free.
