The Internet Movie Database (IMDb)

IMDB or The Internet Movie Database is, for me at least, one of those great reference websites like Wikipedia or Wolfram|Alpha.

That’s why I’m quite happy to announce you that they finally released their very own app on the App Store and it’s completely free.

Here is the official list of features :

-Over 1.5 million movie and TV titles
-Over 3.2 million celebrities
-US Movie showtimes
-Trailers
-Photos
-US TV listings
-Top ranked movies (MOVIEmeter)
-Top ranked celebrities (STARmeter)
-Celebrity birthdays
-US Box Office results
-Movies coming soon
-Top 250 rated films of all time

But anyway, I don’t think I have to pitch it to you as you’re probably already downloading it as we speak.

So what actors played Vicomte de Valmont in inverse chronological order? The first to answer gets a Google Wave invite!

No need for the invite. Just playing through.

  2. John Malkovich
    Jean-Pierre Bouvier
    Juraj Kukura
    Gérard Philipe
    Rupert Everett

I’d like an invite please :-)

  3. Not available if you live in Canada!

  4. U.S only

    WHY?!!

  5. This is getting retarded!! I am so sick of apps only being released in the USA. Let’s get with the times…please don’t forget us Canadians…thanks.

  6. Is IMDB relevant to Canadians? I mean do they even have TVs or movie theaters up there?

    • TV? What’s that? My igloo is all frozen over with the latest dump of snow up here! You Americans have it all! Maybe with global warming, we will too. Sometime, eh?

    • At least we can get Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide. Although I am disappointed with it – nothing like the Palm version I kept updating. Maybe it will get better with time – like that global warming thing that’ll melt our igloo’s and give us real TV!

  7. John malkovich
    Jean-Pierre bouvier
    juraj kukura
    Gerard philepe
    Rupert Everette

I’d love one!!!! I live in the us. :)

  8. 2012 is Americas plot to launch themselves off the planet and into orbit replacing the earth after we launch nukes from our starbucks into the core. Aka “star launchers”. Bye bye syrup factory. Aka Canada. Hello america the oblong shaped planet.

  9. Seriously though, maybe App Advice can do an article on why some apps are US only. This is an annoying trend I’ve seen a few times this week and I just don’t understand it. The iPhone is available in how many countries now? And it’s not like the world doesn’t use imbd.com anyway?

  10. Not available in Australia… I use the imdb website all the time.

  11. Yeah, celebrities sure, but does this list below-the-line crew as well? We want to know what A-holes we may be working with.

  12. not available in sweden either, this sucks,

  13. Unsurprisingly (and very frustratingly) nnot available in Denmark either.

  14. Not available in either the UK or Singapore.

I’ve commented here before and asked for app release information so at least readers know in advance whether the app is going to be available or not without having to go through the frustration of discovering it is unavailable in their country.

  15. Not available in Mexico either. Sucks because it a fundamental tool for the iphone, it’d be great to have the original native app from imdb.com instead of the many lame versions that already exist in the app store.

  16. It’s real easy to download from the US store from another country guys…. look into it. No way I was waiting for the Photoshop, CNN and Dragon Dictate apps….

  17. not available on the italian appstore either, i have to search for a cracked ipa or something. this sucks!

btw i use movie dna, which is very very good
