Apple might not be convinced but Google Latitude is actually a nice tool. If you’ve never heard about it it’s a Google web-app that lets you share your location with your friends. Its main issue however is that it requires you to update your location manually, which kinda kills the purpose.
Fortunately Trevor Self, one of our readers, just tipped us about a recent jailbreak app that fixes this issue, it’s called Longitude and you can get it from the RockYourPhone installer.
The concept is simple, once installed and configured, Longitude will automatically update your location on Google latitude at an interval of your choice.
Even if you’re not interested in letting your friends stalk you, the app can be actually used as a good alternative to Mobile Me’s “Find my iPhone” function. The fact that it’s a widely compatible webapp will also give you the advantage of being able to track your iPhone’s position from another phone, which is impossible with Apple’s solution.
It’s far from perfect as the install process can be complicated and you’ll have to drop $2.99 for it after a 10 days trial. Be also warned that it will strongly drag your battery.
[Thanks to Trevor Self for the tip]

the app didnt work for me, although it seems to work, but no updating in google latitude. seems like more european people have this problem. so setting google/ig-page to english and edit google latitude history to ‘on’ didnt do it for me. seems that there are more people with this problem and new version is comming and after that version, there is a version comming where you can see where your friends are. but till that time
