It seems like it’s update time in the App Store for navigation apps. On top of the recent price-drop war it seems like developers are trying to quickly pack-up as many features as they can before Christmas.

So after CoPilot Live it’s now Navigon’s turn to get an update. The new version, which is still awaiting approval will include :

  • Enhanced Pedestrian Mode: It features a new user interface and uses the digital compass built into the iPhone 3GS. The map now automatically moves with the user making it easy to recognize in which direction to walk.
  • Google Local Search: Users can easily find their way to new places. Simply entering “steak Chicago,” for example, provides a comprehensive list of steak restaurants in the Windy City. By clicking on one of the search results, users are guided to the destination.
  • Navigate by Geographical Coordinates: Navigate using latitude and longitude, and email those coordinates to others.

To cut it short: it will now use the digital compass, help you at finding stuff and let you geek around with coordinates.

  1. Ummm, A TURN LIST. That’s what else. Until they implement this trivial feature, this app is a no go for me!

    • I never thought I would miss that until I wanted to use it and it wasn’t there. It really is such an important feature I am not sure why they skipped it to add pedestrian mode. I mean this is the USA we don’t walk anywhere :)

      • Strange that it’s not there. My Navigon device has it. Why would they cut out an important option like that on their iPhone app?

    • OMG…A Turn List, I needed that feature so bad on Wednesday night because Navigon was taking WAY to long giving the voice prompts. I’d blown past my turn by about 100 yards before it decided to tell me to turn.

A turn-by-turn list was a sure miss in this app.
