TextNow, the excellent texting application that lets you save on your texting plan or even get rid of it, just got an update.
If you don’t know about TextNow, it’s meant to replace your native text app. You can use it to text American cell phones for free and it will push you the replies instantly thanks to Push Notifications.
The update is nothing major really, on top of some UI improvements and the classical bug fixes, Enflick mainly worked on making the messages come in faster. There are also some new handy features, here is the changelog:
-Parses URLs in speech bubbles so you can just tap the URL to visit
-Ability to add contact information to your Address Book directly from the app
-Ability to copy individual texts from the speech bubble
-Import profile pics of friends from Facebook
-Time stamps for the speech bubbles
-Option to forward a copy of your texts to an email address
-Shortcut to call contact from the app
On top of that they are giving away all their ringtones and backgrounds for free until the 25th.

Interesting idea, I’d like to check it out. I hate paying AT&T hundreds of dollars a month.
This sounds like a really great app; I would love to see an option (paid of course) to be able to send multimedia messages (pictures at least; video if it wasn’t too much). I’d give up my $30 a month messaging plan with AT&T if this app could do pictures along with the texts. The pricing for lifetime service does not seem at all unreasonable. $10 total to get unlimited texts is money well spent. I have used their MessageNow app and it was very nicely designed and easy to use. The setup for TextNow seems to be almost identical to the MessageNow app. I’d definitely try this app out (I do 1000 texts in 10 days or so easily).
