Boggle, the classic word-search game, is today’s EA 25 Games ‘Til Xmas Sale deal.

boggle screen1 300x200 Today’s EA 25 Games ‘Til Xmas Sale Deal: BoggleBoggle for the iPhone and iPod touch is just like the real-life version of the game, but instead of shaking a plastic container full of lettered dice, you will be shaking your idevice.  The game features three different gameplay modes that will have you frantically searching for words to create within the allotted amount of time, the ability to challenge a friend via email, achievements, and in-depth stat tracking.

If you would like to learn more about EA’s version of Boggle, check out our in-depth review.

Boggle was originally launched in the App Store for $2.99, but settled in at $1.99 after EA’s Thanksgiving sale.  It is now available for $.99 for today only.

  1. Lexic, profiled here a little bit back, has a mode called ‘Stasis’ that is essentially Boggle.

    Differences:
    Pro-Lexic
Lexic is a much larger grid, (5×7 instead of 4×4)
Lexis is much prettier, with different unlockable tile sets and rames and nice sfx
Points increase for each additional letter in a word instead of 1 for 3-4 letter, 2 for 5-6 etc.
Bonus tiles increase the value of the word overall
More modes than just faux-boggle (blackout – use all the tiles, cascade – used letters disappear and new ones fall in [ala Bejeweled], and quest – like cascade but new level when you use all the gold tiles)
In quest mode there are other tile types that you must deal with (ones that must be used multiple times before disappearing, ones that explode and end the game in a set number of turns if not used, virus tiles that turn an adjacent tile the same letter as the virus until the virus is used)

    Pro-Boggle:
Keeps track of the words you make (Lexic does this in all modes EXCEPT stasis, which seems like a strange design choice or an oversight)
It look like Boggle, if that’s your thing
Shaky thing, if you like shaking your iPhone like a spaz :-p

    Price:
Lexis is 1.99 (I got mine from one of the free codes here) and Boggle is cheaper today only

    Recommendation:
Today, its up to you. Any other day Lexic is the way to go.

  2. I got Boggle during the thanksgiving sale … but somehow I still land up playing the free Scramble 2 from Zynga a lot more … the basic gameplay is the same and the challenge mode in Scramble works via their servers and offers push notifications compared to the cumbersome email system of Boggle …

Still at 0.99 Boggle could be worth the novelty it adds through the advanced play mode and the hope that EA may update it with Wifi / Bluetooth multiplayer as they have done in some of their other games …
