Verizon : “The iPhone Is A Beauty Pageant Queen While The Droid Is An (Ugly) Robot”

YouTube - Verizon DROID Pretty

The advertisement battle continues between Verizon and AT&T with two new commercials. AT&T’s campaign featuring Luke Wilson is weak as usual, however Verizon seems to have taken a very strange new direction.

Verizon’s new ad is trying to tell us that they don’t care about design and making their phone look good. They are pushing the idea that they focused on making a “fast” phone :

Its not a princess, its a robot. A phone that trades hair-do for can-do

And here is AT&T’s last ad :

I must admit that Verizon makes some nice looking advertisement comparing to the just straight boringĀ AT&T, nevertheless the idea behind it is just terrible.

I do care how my phone look and Verizon got it all wrong again, don’t you think?

  1. Verizon is trying so hard to prove that they put out a good phone.
And I will admit that the droid is a new good phone, but it’s no iPhone.
This is getting kinda sad in my opinion.

  2. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face. This might appeal to a certain demographic, but when Coca Cola make their irritatingly bloke-ish adverts for Coke Zero, it’s because they have another product to sell with irritatingly girly equivalents.

As far as I know, Motorola is trying to sell this as a universal product so that tactic makes little sense, and the advertising sort of implies that the lack of sophistication and elegance runs right through to the software. A good example of being too focused on the competition at the expense of your own product.

  3. So bad. Pathetic ad agency. All they had to do was after “can do” last line, say Well, ok it looks pretty good too.

    Stupid.

  4. So you can’t put good technology in a shiny package? The iPhone is limited by Att. So attcking apple is stupid. Attack a company who can’t host their prize technology better and not good asthetic design. Also note: a product released later should be better… Why do they brag when they had months upon months to review the iPhone and beat it’s features? And they don’t! To beat Att they should have contracted their own iPhone and really open up all it’s features. Now that’s competition.

    • I agree with you Ed but the thing is Verizon was offered the iPhone first and turned it down. The problem is Verizon wants full control of any phone on their network and Apple wants to retain full control of their baby so it didn’t work and AT&T got the deal.
Verizon’s other problem is their “3G” isn’t compatible even with the CDMA iPhone that is sold in Canada and they refuse to upgrade their network.

  5. Nice summary of the ads. I have to say I agree with you that I DO want my phone to look nice AND function. All the ad does is try to convince you having both is not possible. Plus it’s now officially branded itself as ugly – not good for business.

  6. Where did verizon get the idea that the Iphone is ultra pretty and stuff? It is really sad that Verizon is going this low to diss the Iphone and AT&T. The droid is complete garbage and so is Verizon!

  7. These are the facts:

VZ has 5 times the 3G coverage of ATT and 14 times that of T Mobile. However Sprint is the only major Telco to have 4G and where it lacks in 3G it roams onto VZ’s, however VZ’s lack of 4G doesn’t mean they can roam on to Sprint’s 4G.

Currently Sprint has the only 4G game in town and when VZ supposedly comes in with their 4G LTE Spirnt will have upgraded to the Wimax 4G based on the 802.16m standard. So no more bogus spin from VZ please about how their LTE is better than Wimax.

VZ should know that Envy is a major Sin and misleading the public will do them no good.

  8. ..and I DISAGREE. I have an iPhone. I work for ATT and won it. I have hated it since I got it. I thought I’d grow to like it, but no.
I will be going to Android when my contract is up. I do not like the limitations I have with this phone. Even my older pocket pc was better, in my opinion, for what i used it for.

MULTITASKING is gone on my iPhone. I use to be able to listen to Sirius radio and have it running in the backround while doing other things like having my yahoo on and sending and receiving email/text. With the iPhone, I cant do that.

Tethering is now gone on my iPhone. I miss it a lot. Hate my iPhone for that.

Customization is not allowed on my iPhone til I jailbroke it. It’s now allowing me to do more things than Apple allows me to do. It’s my phone, dammit. Dont tell me what i can or cant do with it.

DROID is a superior phone to the iPhone. For anyone to say “It’s not an iPhone” is stating the obvious, its better. The GPS turn by turn by Google is the best thing to come to cell phones in a while. I have been watching DEMOS on YouTube of what it can do and its OS and i am sold. I will not get the droid only because I want cheaper plans, but my next phone will be an Android powered device. Goodby Apple’s iPhone. Im so done with its limitations. Plus it’s so 2 years ago.. with dated technology.
