Remotes are one of those gadgets that we failed to get rid of during the last decade. They are not standardized, use batteries and tend to hide themselves at the most critical moments.
Well, their days are counted. The l5remote is a tiny accessory that connects to your dock and will turn your iPhone into a full featured IR remote. It’s not the first device of this kind but this one is from far the most interesting. It will be demoed during CES 2010.
It will be priced around $50 and works within a 30 feet range
Doesn’t it just look great? It should just be embedded.

You know, i’ve wondered why this was such a big deal to do for a long time. I’m glad to see someone came out with a solution for this but you are correct, i cant believe it requires an external device to do it. I dont want to be forced to carry a gadget around to plug in when my kids have taken the remotes hostage again.
thanks for the article
Ryan
Uh… You do realize that the iPhone doesn’t have a built-in IR sensor, nor have I seen a phone with one ( even a smartphone ). Do you want the iPhone and other phones to include a built-in hot-air balloon as well?
There are some great hardware features but no device can include everything, especially with a size limit in mind.
I agree with Ryan. I don’t want to plug in an external device every time I want to watch TV. Looks like a great idea that could be better.
This is awesome. Cant wait to see thing work at CES. Hey people, do you realise that TV’s, DVR’s, Stereos, and most other electronics require an infared light to prompt the devices with remote commands? This little device is a requirement for it to properly work on all TV’s. Did you expect them to come up with a way to flash infared beams from your iphone with magic? Our iphones can do alot, but lets not get too ahead of ourselves. Geeze. Complain complain. lol
If it will control my AV Receiver, Sammy LCD, LG Blu-Ray, and my Mac Mini HTPC, then I’ll buy it on release day!
