Here is one that didn’t last long, forChan, an “unrestricted” photo browser app (read: for Porn) has made it in and out of the App Store in no time today.

The app, a simple photo browser, was not very harmful actually. You could provide it with the URL of an online photo catalog and it would simply display it the way the iPhone native picture app (or Flickr) does.

The default gallery, full of puppies, was however intended to be quickly replaced by some other content that the user just needed to activate from the developer’s website. Here is before, and after :

Charles Rodriguez, the president of forChan’s developing company, commented the following way:

It’s important to note that forChan does not contain an Easter egg. There is no code within the actual app which enables the adults only feature. We simply programmed it with dual functionality, all content is delivered by our company’s servers. Using forChan in this capacity is no different than visiting an adults only site with a web browser app purchased from iTunes.

There is another funny bit: the app has been submitted, approved and then pulled in less than 24 hours.

  1. So why does Safari still exist on the iPhone? I can go to porn sites all day long with that app.

    • It is a different kind of application.
With the browser you could reach a porno site, that’s right, but Apple does not provide Internet content or even makes you easy to get that king of material.
You also have to think about the possibility of a child using an iPhone from a parent and accesing by error to that kind of material.
Despite the parent’s fault, they could go on trial against apple because they allow that kind of apps on the phone. They would do it also because … IT’S APPLE!

      • and what was the thing with BING then? bing also only provided access to things on the web, namely picture search …

  2. Quiet! They’ll reject that next.

IMHO, I don’t like how there are loads of soft porn apps on the store now, oo they have a place I guess by why the inconsistancy, they reject one app because an icon is confusing but they allow in maybe 10 apps that are offensive. Let us not forget tr shaking baby game

  4. This is stupid. I can understand not allowing straight out porn into the store, but this is very inconsistent. Just look at Cooliris, Bing, or Google Mobile App – all can be used to do exactly what this app does. apple also recently approved the Dailymotion and Metacafe Apps that give access to pornographic streaming videos. Apple has equipped parents with an extreme level of control when it comes to their children’s iphones(even to the point of allowing them to disable the browser). If there is a concern here, it is the fault of the parent.

  5. You may understand them not allowing porn apps out of the store, but I don’t. There are parental controls on the iPhone now for chrissake, what’s the point of those if there’s nothing to “control”? Buncha prudes. It’s the principle of the matter that bugs me. I never liked nanny censoring…
