ALK Technologies recently sent us a short note that should make many current and soon to be CoPilot Live owners quite happy.  The company intends to offer their once paid feature, live local search, for free.

CoPilot Live North America currently retails for $34.99, but that price jumps up quite a bit if you are in need of live local search, live traffic, or live fuel prices since they are only available as a single $19.99 in-app purchase.  That won’t be the case for long, as the company intends to yank the live local search feature out of the in-app purchase bundle and offer it for free via the app’s next update.

Live local search allows you to quickly and easily find whatever it is you are looking for in your area, such as the nearest service, product, brand, or shop.  Once found, search results can be displayed in the map or as a list for easy viewing.

The live local search update will be free to all existing CoPilot Live owners and has been submitted to Apple for approval.  The update should also contain some other unannounced features.

The in-app purchase bundle that features live traffic and live fuel prices will remain at its current price of $19.99 for one year of service.

  1. I have never given this app a chance. It’s a shame, they always implement the top of the line features right away and have a great price point. Anyone out there tried it? How does it stack up to navigon and tomtom?

    • CoPilot is really good, especially for the price. One thing I like is the maps all get downloaded into your phone, so you can still use it even if you don’t have cell service where you happen to be.
