Google Goes Social With Buzz, Also On Your iPhone

Google just unveiled its very own take on social media; Google Buzz.

Think of it as a mix of Twitter, Facebook and Google wave, basically, it’s meant to allow you to share links, media and thoughts through Gmail with your contacts and let them send it further or respond to it. But it’s not email…

Here is the official teaser:

To access it, point your browser to http://buzz.google.com

They are slowly rolling it out in their desktop browser apps but you should be already able to access it now from your iPhone at the same address. The whole service is actually a lot more interesting on your iPhone because of its geo-located side. Just check out Google’s own presentation of the mobile Buzz:

Here is how it looks like at the first launch:

Here is the main page which lets you visualise status updates from those who you’re following:

Furthermore, you can access all buzzs nearby in list form or on a map:

We’re still discovering the capabilities of this new toy, feel free to add me (xonder) to test it out.

  1. Google buzz is absolutely shite, I wrote a so call buzz and I’m still waiting for it to show up 1 hour later. Google this isnt going to work, word of advice, stick to search engine and leave social networking and mobile phone alone.

  2. Just wondering, what happened to the new applists every Tuesday and Thursday?

  3. I’m not a grammar nazi, but I struggled with this one a few times:

“Here is how it looks like at the first launch, it will offer to install itself on your home screen.”

    love the site though!

  4. Buzz must be customize to Android phone.
I agree it’s suggest a good mobile web environment but not suitable for iPhone UI.

it’s deal with mobile devices design.
I mean existing button outside of touch area.

  5. This annoys me.

for google reader and wave we have to go to separate websites. I’ve never understood why they weren’t integrated into the gmail interface.

instead we get this crap and it it integrated.

google should change their motto to ‘dont be stupid’

  7. Not sure about buzz yet.. imported tweets have no links to users or hashtags.. bummer.
