Doublesix, the developers of Iron Man for the iPhone and the acclaimed Geometry Wars: Galaxies for the Nintendo Wii, are gearing up to self-publish their second iPhone game titled Babeorella.
Babeorella is a highscore chasing arena-based action game, meaning you only have a single life to obtain the best score possible while enduring wave after wave of ever-increasing enemy attacks. In the game you play as Babeorella, a bright orange tights clad blond equipped with tons of firepower and ninja-like moves. She is stuck on top of an asteroid with a crazed robot force about to invade which she must fight off at all costs.
Babeorella is controlled via a single joystick located in the lower left-hand corner of the screen. Three action buttons are located in the lower right-hand corner. Enemies will be attacking from all directions on top of the asteroid, so you must keep moving and keep killing by employing one of her three attacks.
Doublesix has created a fairly forgiving and yet engaging close and ranged attack mechanism, where Babeorella automatically switches weapons and combat styles based on how close your enemy is. The circle below Babeorella will change color from green, yellow, to red indicating your enemies range, and she will fire her weapon, take out her whip, or windmill kick enemies depending on that range.
Babeorella can employ quick and strong attacks depending upon the situation, and dash away from enemies and unleash devastating bombs all via the three action buttons. All of her attacks and powers can be upgraded at any time during the game as long as you have gained enough hit points. Special power-ups such as invincibility, damage multipliers, and health re-generators can be found scattered across the level to aid in your quest.
The game’s combat is rather unique and the ability to upgrade items throughout really adds to the experience. Depending on how good you are, a single game will last quite a while as you go for your best score, so there is value here. Babeorella does only contain a single map, however, so the visuals may get tiring after multiple playthroughs.
Babeorella will be hitting the App Store on Thursday, March 25th for $2.99. If endless action games featuring blonds and robots is your thing, you won’t want to miss this one.
