One of the biggest unknown about the iPad (now that we know when it’s coming) is what we’ll we use it for. Well, ChangeWave released this week the results of its latest survey on the question and it seems like most of us are really just looking for a web/e-reader with some multimedia features.
As you can see above, the five main planned usages go from surfing the web to watching videos. The survey is however lacking focus on a major point, apps. Indeed, while the iPhone is great as it is, most of its traction comes from apps, and this will be just as important on the iPad.
Furthermore, they ‘re reporting that the iPad is getting more pre-launch demand than the iPhone did, but with Apple being in a relatively different position than it was 3 years ago, we can’t really say how representative this is.

Lastly, the survey focuses on the timing of those purchase intentions as well as whether it will cannibalize other Apple products. While the first follows a pretty common pattern, the second could be of some worries to Apple.

Where do you belong in there? Early adopter/web surfer or cautious e-book reader?
