The Onion Gets An Official iPhone App

April 5, 2010

One of America's most beloved news sources, The Onion, has finally listened to its fans and released an official iPhone app.  The Onion iPhone app, which is heavily sponsored by Jack Link's Beef Jerky, is available free of charge in the App Store and gives you all of The Onion news you can handle.
“Readers, listeners and viewers who rely on The Onion to present the news in the way that only The Onion can, have pleaded for an official app. Some have even gone as far as creating their own unauthorized Onion-related apps,” said Onion Web Editor Baratunde Thurston. “No longer will Onion fans have to settle for information cobbled together by lesser, non-Onion news sources. They should feel free to delete all such apps immediately.”
The app gives iPhone and iPod touch users two feed options.  You can view all of the most recent news from The Onion's website in a single feed or narrow it down to video, audio, or images.  A second feed provides quick access to the most popular news. When viewing a specific article, video, audio, or image, you can choose to share it with others via Facebook, Twitter, or email, or you can save it on your device to access while offline.  The app also features a search functionality so you can find just the article you are looking for. This is just the beginning for the official The Onion iPhone app, as the company intends to provide enhanced functionality throughout the year via paid upgrades. If you are in need of an iPhone-friendly way to get your The Onion fix, this official app is no doubt the best way to go as long as you don't mind Jack Link's Beef Jerky.
