Steve Jobs On iPhone 4 Antenna Issue: "Stay Tuned"

June 28, 2010

Following Apple's confirmation of the much-reported iPhone 4 antenna issue, Steve Jobs has now replied to another email, telling its sender to "stay tuned." The iPhone 4 user who contacted Jobs was a MacRumors reader named Mark, and here's the relevant section from his email:
"Everything is fantastic except the reception issues I've been having. My buddy has the same issue."
To which Steve replied, two minutes later,
"There are no reception issues. Stay Tuned."
Steve's response is particularly important as it marks a change from the standard replies Jobs has been sending to antenna-issue-emailers over the past few days, which had simply been a quote from Apple's statement:
"Gripping any phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a fact of life for every wireless phone. If you ever experience this on your iPhone 4, avoid gripping it in the lower left corner in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band, or simply use one of many available cases."
Apple's previous statement described the issue as a totally normal phenomenon, with even Jobs himself stating in an email that "every phone has areas of sensitivity." Afflicted iPhone users now have a shred of hope to hold onto: Jobs' reply seems to hint that Apple is in the process of developing some fix for the reception problem, a fix that could possibly lie within the reported iOS 4.01 update that is alleged to be released soon. We're not sure whether this is anything more than wishful thinking, but a software update designed to fix the iPhone 4's signal failure issues certainly would be a dream come true for many owners. We'll be posting if we hear anything, so keep checking back for more information! In the meantime, let us know what you think about the iPhone's antenna issues in the comments box below.
