How To: Jailbreak iOS 4

July 29, 2010

With iOS 4 out, you are probably wishing you had good old Cydia back, and finding the right tools to jailbreak an iOS device has always been a tad frustrating. However, fear not, AppAdvice is here to help with all of your jailbreaking needs. To jailbreak, you will need an iPhone 3G or an iPod touch 2nd Gen (non-MC model). The iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 2nd Gen (MC model) are supposedly jailbreakable with sn0wbreeze 1.798 on Windows, however I can neither confirm nor deny this. What You'll Need
  • An iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2nd Gen (The model ID cannot start with MC)
  • redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 (You'll have to Google it)
  • Stock iOS 4.0 Firmware
  • Any iDevice
  • A mobile internet connection on your iDevice
Steps 1) Download redsn0w and the iOS 4 stock firmware. 2) Open redsn0w and select the firmware. 3) That's it! This guide wasn't meant to help you through the process, mainly just give you the tools you need to do so. You are now given the option of custom boot/recovery logos, battery percentage, verbose boot, backgrounds, and multi-tasking. In order to jailbreak, all you need to do is simply visit JailbreakMe.com from any iDevice using Safari. After the install, visit Cydia and download the PDF Patch. You will also need to visit the Changes tab and update the jailbreak in order to restore FaceTime and MMS. And there you go, one iOS 4 device freshly jailbroken. Now you can add SBSettings and Winterboard back into your everyday life.
