China Unicom Will Jailbreak Your New iPhone 4?

August 29, 2010
As many of you already know, China is scheduled to get the iPhone 4 on September 16, and carrier China Unicom plans to hand out AntennaGate-busting cases with every purchase. However, another customer service the carrier is set to offer involves jailbreaking your iPhone at purchase, following the not-so-recent launch of JailbreakMe.com and the ensuing increase of Cydia-running iPhone handsets. Indeed, as MIC Gadget states, the circled text in the above picture (left), reads:
Support Service: Free SIM-trimming, jailbreak, installation of more than 10 hot apps.
We're not sure how China Unicom is going to jailbreak these new iPhones, which will presumably ship with iOS 4.0.2. As stated by the Dev-Team itself, JailbreakMe.com will not be updated to support this iOS - as it would only allow Apple to fix the trick in the soon-to-be-released iOS 4.1. Perhaps this offer will only apply to handsets running iOS 4.0.1, or maybe China Unicom has uncovered a means of jailbreaking the iOS 4.0.2 operating system. Who knows? We'll be posting more on this when the iPhone 4 hits China, on September 16. Would you have appreciated a service like this from your local AT&T store? Please let us know in the comments box below!
