Jailbreak Only: TetherMe - Tether Your iPhone, Even If Your Carrier Doesn't Allow It

August 14, 2010
Tethering is a great thing. Until recently, I'd been quite unfamiliar with the service, which is fortunately provided by my carrier (Vodafone UK). I found myself in a cafe away from a Wi-Fi network, with more than a couple of hours to kill (and a lot of work to do). After a five minute phone call with a Vodafone rep, I was tethered and ready to go - browsing through the web all thanks to my iPhone 4, which I then loved all the more. However, not everyone is lucky enough to be with a carrier that allows tethering - with many having to fork out for the expensive alternative, MyWi. Here's what Dev-Team member, MuscleNerd, had to say (via Twitter) regarding that particular application:
For those wise enough to not spend ridiculous $20 on MyWi, look into the $2 TetherMe app now, and yet another in next week.
Wise words from a wise man. TetherMe turns your iPhone into a modem, and allows users to hook up to the Internet in the same way they would through Apple's built-in tethering feature: Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering. However, if you do decide to use TetherMe, be sure to remember that additional charges may be applied. So, what are you waiting for? If your carrier doesn't support Internet tethering, be sure to check out TetherMe (which is available now in Cydia), and let us know how it works for you in the comments box below! Thanks to iSpazio for spotting this.
