Pilot The R-9a Arrowhead And Take Down The Bydo Empire In R-Type, Now Available In The App Store
Thanks to EA, R-Type, one of the most challenging side-scrolling shoot 'em ups to ever grace an arcade cabinet, has made its way into the App Store. R-Type for iPhone and iPod touch is a faithful recreation of the original '80s sci-fi shoot 'em up by the same name. It allows you to pilot a futuristic fighter dubbed the R-9a Arrowhead and set off to destroy the evil Bydo Empire. You are able to pilot your fighter using one of three different control schemes: tilt, touch, and on-screen directional pad. Gather power-ups and upgrade your ship to blast away all Bydo baddies that get in your way in an attempt to achieve the highest score. You must be very careful when piloting your ship, however, as anything that touches it, be it an air or ground unit, bullet, or even wall, will cause you to lose one of your three lives. Lose all of them and the game is over. For those who are simply not up to the challenge, R-Type does include a mode with unlimited lives as well. But don't feel bad, this is one of the most difficult games of all time. R-Type for iPhone and iPod touch also includes all eight of the original levels, eight bosses, and retro graphics and sounds. R-Type is now available in the App Store for $1.99. It's a small price to pay for old school gaming bliss. Be sure to watch the site for an in-depth review as well.
