Get Interactive With Your TV Show Watching Using ABC’s My Generation Sync For iPad
September 17, 2010
There are a number of television show companion apps in the App Store, and even a few that keep up with the pace of each episode. However, ABC’s My Generation Sync is a little different, as it is intended to have you follow along every moment throughout the show.
ABC’s My Generation Sync app lets iPad users vote in polls, answer quizzes, view behind-the-scenes material, and more as the show happens. How does the app work? My Generation Sync will synchronize to the same moment as the show by listening to it. That's right, it works like the music identifying apps to pinpoint where you are in the show.
Because it doesn't use a server-client synchronization system, you can use it to watch live broadcasts of My Generation episodes, however, the app will also work with recorded versions. Not only that but ABC claims it works just fine with or without commercials, pausing, or other non-predictable playback.
My Generation is a comedy-drama documentary series about nine students who graduated in 2000 from Greenbelt High School in Austin, TX, but come back home after ten years to reflect on how their plans for life have actually unfolded. "They'll discover that, even if you don't get exactly what you thought you wanted out of life, it's not too late to get what you need."
The series was created and written by Noah Hawley, creator of television series like Bones, and stars: Michael Stahl-David as Steven Foster "The Overachiever", Kelli Garner as Dawn Barbuso "The Punk", Jaime King as Jacqueline Vachs "The Beauty Queen", Keir O'Donnell as Kenneth Finley "The Nerd", Sebastian Sozzi as The Falcon "The Rock Star", Mehcad Brooks as Rolly Marks "The Jock", Anne Son as Caroline Chang "The Wallflower", Daniella Alonso as Brenda Serrano "The Brain" and Julian Morris as Anders Holt "The Rich Kid".
My Generation premieres Thursday, September 23rd at 8:00 PM EDT on ABC. ABC’s My Generation Sync is compatible with iPad, and is already available in the App Store at no cost.
Interestingly and annoyingly enough, ABC has chosen to only provide a Flash-based version of the promotional video. Sorry folks, no iDevice friendly version this time.
