Redsn0w Now Jailbreaks iPhone 3G Running iOS 4.0 / 4.1

September 21, 2010
The iPhone Dev-Team has just released a beta version of redsn0w. The popular tool can now jailbreak iPhone 3G handsets and second-gen iPod touches running iOS 4.0 / 4.1. However, an update to ultrasn0w has not yet been released. So, if you use the unlock tool to remove the carrier lock on your iPhone, hold off on updating and re-jailbreaking until the Dev-Team gives the thumps-up. Here's what the Team posted regarding redsn0w, on its blog:
We’ve released a beta version of redsn0w for the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G at FW 4.1 or 4.0. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. It does not include the SHAtter exploit developed by pod2g. Nothing new is revealed to Apple with this jailbreak.
Currently, the tool is only compatible with Mac OS X x86, as a Windows version has not yet been thoroughly debugged. But, worry not - the Dev-Team has stated that a Windows version is coming soon. So be patient, guys. You can find all the information you need on the new beta version of redsn0w over at the iPhone Dev-Team's blog, including download links for the jailbreak tool. As always, jailbreak at your own risk.
