Stalled Submissions Appear In App Store Following Approval Changes

September 20, 2010
Not long ago, Apple changed its app approval rules, which had prevented a great many apps from gaining entrance to the company's App Store. Following this, our attention turned to Google Voice enabled apps, all of which had been banned from the App Store last year. GV Mobile+, an app developed by Sean Kovacs, made its way into our headlines after its possible re-submission was announced. It was re-submitted, and then approved. Similarly, GV Connect (a similar app) also appeared in the App Store. Following this, many have been speculating about the extent to which Apple's approval process has been relaxed. Over the years following the App Store's birth, we've seen a great many apps fail to gain entrance into the Store over one minor issue or another. Yet now, this could all be changing. Indeed, the change has already begun. Flash-based applications are also being approved by Apple following the company's recent changes. Developers may use Adobe's Packager for iPhone - something which had previously been banned. As the Los Angeles Times reports, PhillyGeekCentral (a Flash-based scheduling app) was submitted way back in March, and was finally approved the day Apple changed its rules. Coincidence? Of course it isn't. Spiralz, another Flash-based app, was also approved following the changes made to Apple's approval process. So, what does this mean for the App Store and its patrons? Obviously, we're beginning to experience a more colorful App Store thanks to Apple's new, liberal approval process. And, while Steve might cry for HTML5 until the end of his days, he's happy to grant Flash-based apps entrance to the App Store (for now, at least). So long as the app is good, it'll get in. Hopefully this means Apple is going to cut down on the large number of poor apps which sneak into the App Store day after day. Until they do, be sure to check Alexander's AppFresh posts, which strive to highlight the very best additions to the App Store on a daily basis.
