Apple Planning On Extending iTunes Song Previews To 90 Seconds?

November 3, 2010
Apple is planning on extending iTunes song previews to 90 seconds in the U.S., for songs that are at least 2 1/2 minutes long. As MacRumors reports, the company has been contacting various music labels, informing them of the move:
We are pleased to let you know that we are preparing to increase the length of music previews from 30 seconds to 90 seconds on the iTunes Store in the United States. We believe that giving potential customers more time to listen to your music will lead to more purchases.
You can check out a full screenshot of the email, above. Interestingly, any labels that don't want to accept Apple's new proposal can do so, by withdrawing from the iTunes Store altogether. For that reason alone, we're expecting virtually every label to go along with Apple's proposed preview change. For customers who regularly purchase music via iTunes, this change will undoubtedly be appreciated. Do you think a 90 second "clip" would be more likely to persuade you purchase a song through iTunes? Let us know in the comments below!
