Apple's iOS Platform Has More Games Than You'd Expect

November 21, 2010
Apple's iOS platform really does have more games than you'd expect. While it's easy to get lost in the games section of the App Store, it's difficult to imagine how the number of iOS games compares with the number of XBOX games available, or the number of PS3 games on the market. Thankfully, the guys over at TUAW have done more the imagine it; they've investigated how the iOS compares with other platforms. And, what's more, they've made a graph:

As you can see, Apple's iOS platform boasts more than twice as many games than more than four generations of gaming combined. While we might moan about the App Store approval process from time to time, it's impossible to deny that Apple has created a platform which is easy to publish on - if you follow Steve's rules. And, furthermore, it's not just relatively easy to publish to iOS; it's easy to buy from the App Store too. Gone are they days when you had to queue outside of a store to get the latest game - now, we can all download the latest and greatest wherever we are, whatever the time. Lastly, I'm going to say this: gaming on the iOS platform has never been better. Obviously, you'd expect it to get better with time - and so, in turn, you'd expect gaming to be at its best right now. But, with fantastic iOS apps such as RAGE HD available in the App Store, and Infinity Blade on the way, for the first time ever the iDevice is comparable with the XBOX 360 the PS3. Does this make the iPad truly magical? Let us know in the comments.
