Mac App Store: No Game Center, No In-App Purchases, And No Pre-Christmas Launch

December 10, 2010
Today, we have some bad news about the Mac App Store. In fact, we have several pieces of bad news. First, the Mac App Store will not be arriving in time for Christmas, as many had previously speculated. As The Loop reports, the upcoming store will see a January 2011 release. Next, the Mac App Store apps will not feature Game Center in any form. There will be no achievements, leaderboards, or online multiplayer provided by Apple's Game Center. And, finally, Mac App Store applications will not feature in-app purchases. Furthermore, 9to5Mac recently discovered that promo codes will not be available for the Mac App Store. Nor will app demos, trials, or betas. Currently, we're not sure whether Apple is planning on adding these features to the Mac App Store over time, or if they're outright banned. It does seem strange that Apple has banned some of the App Store's best features. Disappointed? Let us know in the comments.
