Next OS X Update Will Search Mac App Store For Unsupported Files

December 27, 2010
When Apple releases OS X 10.6.6 sometime in the next few days, it will offer users a new way to search for applications to open unsupported files. The OS will search the upcoming Mac App Store for an appropriate application. The new OS/Mac App Store integration is similar to how Windows allows users to search the web for applications to open unsupported files.

However, since Apple will control what ends up in the Mac App Store, it looks like it will be much more secure than the Windows option. The Mac App Store, which will officially be released on January 6, promises users an easy way of discovering, installing and updating Mac apps. AppAdvice will have full coverage of the Mac App Store release, as it happens.
