The $4.99 iOS app, everyAir, allows Apple fans to play Mac or Windows games, and view Flash videos, on their iDevice. However, thanks to a handy (and not too complicated) “trick,” it is actually possible to play PS3 games on your iDevice via everyAir.
Probably the easiest way to think about everyAir is in terms of the app acting like a VNC client, though its developer notes that it “architected a new way of handling remote desktop connectivity,” as opposed to “relying on VNC or RDP.”
With this technology, users can, for example, play World of Warcraft on an iDevice (a feat users are reminded of over at the developer’s website). However, if this wasn’t enough, a “trick” that allows users to play PS3 games on an iDevice via everyAir, has recently been discovered.
Here’s how it works:
The trick is to connect a capture device and a USB mouse/keyboard device to the PS3. The capture device sends video data to the PC, and the USB keyboard/mouse sends the button presses. On the PC itself, you run a custom build of everyAir which understands custom gestures and pipes the input to the PC which then sends it to the PS3 via the input interpreter.
For more information, take a look at the video demo below. PandaElf Labs notes that “a fully customisable version [of the feature will be released] at some point in the future.” We’ll keep you posted.
