Grey's Anatomy Fans Will Love Upcoming Sync App For The iPad

February 1, 2011
Last fall, ABC debuted a new TV series called My Generation. The documentary-style show focused on the lives of a group of friends about to celebrate their 10th high school reunion. To gather interest in the show, ABC also released a My Generation Sync app for the iPad. The show died a quick death after just two weeks of poor ratings, as did the app. However, the app is about to be reborn. This time, it will be tied to a more popular show, Grey’s Anatomy. This news comes from Rick Mandler, Vice President of Digital Media at ABC, who made the announcement at Hill Holliday's TVNext "future of TV" event. According to Gizmodo, Mandler explained:
"We do not want to interrupt people's TV viewing experience; we want to enhance people's TV viewing experiences," he said.
The concept behind the My Generation/Grey’s Anatomy Sync app is pretty basic, but could prove powerful given the right show (Grey's Anatomy). It allows you (and others) to interact while the show is being aired. The app “listens” to the show as it airs, and displays accompanying content on the user's iPad. Trivia questions, links to buy music from the series, and similar features are expected when the new app debuts soon. If this proves popular, similar apps could make their debut later in 2011.
